Join us for an online lunch talk with HOST Professor Koen Mommens, as we dive into one of the trickiest questions in the sustainability debate: Should we put a price on environmental impact to change behaviour?
Pollution, resource depletion, climate damage – these so-called externalities – affect people who aren’t part of the original transaction. Think of a company polluting a river: it’s the local community that pays the price. One proposed solution? Put a monetary value on these hidden costs, so they are harder to ignore.
This has worked in many cases, but it also raises tough questions we can explore with Koen:
Would you change your behaviour if you knew the external cost of your activities and choices?
Would you act differently if you had to pay for your sustainability impact?
