Co-creation
A comprehensive toolkit for participatory co-creation and citizen science methods
The StreetForum Toolkit is a collection of ten participatory tools designed to support inclusive and creative street transformation processes. Developed by partners across Europe, the toolkit combines workshop-based methods, on‑street activities, and digital platforms to help residents, planners, and stakeholders collaboratively explore how streets can evolve. Each tool offers a different way to spark dialogue, surface local knowledge, and test ideas directly in the urban environment.
The workshop tools include interactive games such as the Design Game, where participants take turns adding elements to their surroundings, and the Storytelling Game, which connects personal experiences of the street. Visual methods like rich picture.talk help groups discuss complex challenges through hand‑drawn illustrations, while Stakeholder Personas allow participants to step into the roles of different actors in the area.
On‑street activities bring engagement directly into public space. Art installations highlight the potential of streets and invite public conversation, while #residentialstreetlife and MoBil encourage residents to reimagine their streets through temporary structures and co‑creative interventions. The Keep the Balance – OPEN AIR game enables groups to negotiate street use and transformation on-site.
Digital tools extend participation beyond physical workshops. Placetoplan allows people to leave pinpointed comments on maps of their streets, and Streetmeter lets users test how changing street characteristics affects its potential. Together, these tools offer a flexible, accessible, and engaging way to rethink urban streets with the people who use them every day.
