Due diligence

A practical guidance and self-assessment tool for companies

The Business & Human Rights Toolbox is a fully renewed and forward‑looking resource designed to help companies put their human rights responsibilities into practice.

The 2025 edition builds on the original 2018 version and was developed by a multidisciplinary team of experts from academia, consultancy, and human rights organisations. This collaboration ensured updated content, a simplified structure, and significantly improved accessibility.

The toolbox provides companies and their stakeholders with a clear overview of their responsibilities within both the international and Belgian human rights frameworks. It explains how organisations can identify, prevent, and address risks, and how they can establish appropriate remedy mechanisms when negative impacts occur.

In addition to recommended good practices, the tool also highlights legal obligations and emerging developments in the field of Human Rights & Environmental Due Diligence.

With its improved structure, practical guidance, and expanded section on access to justice and remedy, the Business & Human Rights Toolbox supports companies in building sustainable, respectful, and future‑proof business practices.
